#Maythefourth be with you this month and the next, as I combine both months for a creative mash-up of fresh opportunities. This time of the year is the perfect point in your creative calendar to enter and make it into a Summer show, where you can ensure you get the most exposure.
A couple of highlight shows I think you should try and enter this month (depending on your medium of choice). The first is the Derwent Art Prize, with its looming deadline on the 8 May. It’s a prize that is purely focused on pencil, which is a rare thing in the competition world. And with prizes totaling £12,500 you can’t really afford to miss this one as a graphite eccentric!
The second is the Sunday Times Watercolour Competition, which is the largest watercolour competition in the UK. In its 31st year, it aims to reward and celebrate originality in the medium. So if you’re thinking you need to create a picturesque, traditional watercolour landscape, you’d be wrong. Be bold with water!
I will make it my mission to update this list when I see more visual art opportunities (as I hope to enter some myself)! Good luck!
